All Saints Church has a three-fold foundational principle: To express the love of Christ in a relevant, real, and relational way.

istock_000006055871xsmallWhat do we mean by “relevant”? We believe God’s Word is relevant for all time.  The ancient Faith has contemporary implications.  Therefore, we strive to present God’s message of hope and love in a way that is culturally applicable and honors the Lord.

In other words, we are happy to do church outside the box.  While we hold to the ancient Faith, and an order of service, we recognize that not many will “happen” into a church in a largely post-Christian culture.  So, we are willing to take church to the world, rather than hide from it.

What do we mean by “real”? We aim to be real people, living in a real world, dealing with real issues, while trying to do our best to serve a very real God.  We admit we struggle, we are broken, and we are not yet completely transformed. We are just people committed to Christ’s Lordship one step at a time. As God has been patient and kind to us, we strive to be the same.

What do we mean by “relational”? We understand that we are living in a unique time.  We understand that the culture is advertisement-leery, suspicious of truth claims (especially absolute claims), hostile towards sales pitches, and can smell manipulation and insincerity a mile away.

Who can blame them?  We, in the American Church, must admit that for many years, we’ve asked people to join us on our terms; that people should fit neatly into a process of becoming Christian.  At All Saints, we think the American Church should apologize for that because it really does sound more like selling a cellular plan at a kiosk in the Westgate Mall than it does loving our neighbor.  It is more manipulation than transformation.

We believe that in today’s culture, our deeds must proclaim the Gospel prior to our words. We have to earn the right to be trusted and heard.  We realize that takes time and are happy to spend ours in developing intentional meaningful relationships with those around us; not to get someone to believe what we believe (although that is always a bonus), but because we genuinely care about others as God cares for them.  We will continue to love and serve when people hear our message as well as when they do not.

Therefore, in all that we do, we aim to do in community, both inside our church and outside of our church.
