Our Sister Parish in Rwanda |
|
The Sister-2-Sister program was designed to create relationships between Anglican Mission in the Americas churches in the United States and churches in Rwanda. [The AMiA is a missionary extension of the Anglican Province In Rwanda. We are not a separate church on our own - we are under the authority of Rwanda and her Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini.] Sister-2-Sister relationships bring American and Rwandan people together to share their faith and love for God with each other in spite of differences in culture, language, and distance. Our sister church in Nanga is headed by Archdeacon Celestin and their church has over 1100 Saints (members).
We sent them a picture of our members from the Palm Sunday service this year. In the future, we are going to try to setup a prayer line link for us to share with each other prayer requests and other announcements vital to keeping us in touch with each other. The pictures you see here are from their Pentecost service Sunday, May 23, 2010. When you look at these pictures of our brothers and sisters in the Nanga church, you see such joy, freedom and spirit-led worship!

TOTAL Ministries is an extension of Spartanburg's local churches that believe in a faith-based approach to helping those in need. We can accomplish much more working together than we can apart. All Saints Church is proud to support TOTAL Ministries. One of the ways our congregation supports them is through "TOTAL Ministries Sunday,” the first Sunday of every month. All Saints has been designated the GRITS (Grace Reflected in Total Service) church and our goal is to collect 100 pounds of grits each month. Many of our members volunteer there as well.
TOTAL ministries not only provides food, but is actively engaged in providing assistance in:
Prevention of evictions/foreclosures Preventing loss of utility services (electric/gas/water) Providing heating assistance in the winter Providing food Providing clothing (at no cost) Covering the costs of life-sustaining medications Assistance with obtaining papers/ID to start work Traveler's Aid for Spartanburg County (stranded travelers)

Christmas In Action Spartanburg is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency that, in partnership with the community, repairs homes of low-income, elderly, and/or disabled homeowners to provide for their continued warmth, safety, and independence.
Christmas in Action Spartanburg coordinates the efforts of concerned individuals, businesses, churches, civic clubs, and other agencies in providing home maintenance for qualified homeowners who cannot afford to make the repairs themselves.
Christmas in Action leaders identify neighborhoods in need in the Spartanburg area and deliver applications to prospective candidates. The application poses questions that evaluate the financial and physical eligibility for Christmas in Action services. The qualified candidates are notified, and Christmas in Action then recruits and organizes construction and repair teams. Each team focuses on fundamental home repairs like roofing, siding, porches, and stairs. The teams complete the repairs during one designated Rebuilding Day. There are two Rebuilding Days each year, one in April and the other in October. In addition to this, emergency repairs are completed year round for homeowners in dire need of assistance.
All Saints Church is honored to consider Christmas in Action one of our mission partners. We work on teams twice per year. You may learn more about Christmas in Action at www.christmasinactionspartanburg.org.

Land of 1000 Hills Coffee |

In an effort to change the coffee industry, one of the most exploitative in the world, Land of a Thousand Hills participates in Community Trade, a term coined to mean Directly Traded, paid for with higher-than-Fair Trade wages, and where investment in the farming community is top priority. They believe that by paying their coffee growers just, Living Wages and supporting economic and community development in the region, not only does the region thrive with higher quality coffee, but justice is pursued.
Their special projects include building a sustenance farm for the region's malnourished orphans, creating soccer programs to promote community and coffee education, giving microfinance loans to entrepreneurs, lending coffee bikes to ensure safer and more efficient travel, and donating shoes to farmers and their families.
All Saints gives this coffee away to all newcomers as a way of saying “thank you for coming”. It is great coffee and it certainly makes a difference in Rwanda.

All Saints is pleased to partner with Spartanburg’s internationally recognized Globalbike. We are both in Spartanburg, both encouraging active living, both working in Rwanda, and pursuing many of the same goals.
Globalbike has a simple mission: use the transformative power of bikes to create positive social change in the developing world. And, they have a contagious vision: a world where bicycles and creative partnerships provide those in need with access to the health care and vital services critical to their collective prosperity. Using bicycles, Globalbike connects community care workers around the world to rural villages that would normally be unreachable.
We donate to their cause regularly and have gathered together to show the movie Wounded Healers to help raise money for bicycles in Rwanda. All Saints helped to raise over $3,000 so far this year, providing the last 20 bicycles to Rwandan Reconciliation Ambassadors. We hope to continue with our partnership for many years to come.

As Jesus gave his blood for us, we love to give ours for others. At least once a year, Piedmont Blood Center sends their mobile unit to one of our Sunday services. All donations, while made available to the public, are also credited to our church should any of our members have need.
