Spartanburg Downtown Association PDF  | Print |  E-mail

sdaThe Spartanburg Downtown Association is a community-based organization that plans, markets, and advocates for Downtown Spartanburg. The association's goal is to be a guiding force for positive growth and improvement of the downtown area by providing leadership, and marketing downtown as the dynamic center of commerce in the Greater Spartanburg community.

SDA performs services directly related to downtown development, such as promotion and advertising, business retention and recruitment, and planning and problem solving among downtown residents, businesses, property owners, employees, and community leaders. This is exactly the kind of thing All Saints stands for Downtown.

In particular, we support the following through the SDA:

Jazz on the Square is held every Friday in April and May and again in September and October. We help organize and volunteer for this event as a means of promoting foot-traffic and supporting the arts.

International Festival

intfes

The Spartanburg International Festival is held each fall in beautiful Barnet Park. More than 8,000 people attend to celebrate and explore the world through food, music, dance, folk art and more. “Tourists” can travel from Austria to Africa in the time it normally takes to make an airline reservation when strolling through the International Festival’s Avenue of Nations. All Saints not only helps organize the Festival, but also sponsors a booth for Rwanda hosted by Rwandan students from Wofford College.

A Dickens of a Christmas

wwe433A Dickens of a Christmas is a community holiday festival that brings the Victorian Spirit of Charles Dickens's time to downtown Spartanburg. Dramatic performers, musicians, working artists and community organizations immerse festival-goers in a swirling array of sights, sounds and activities typical of the Victorian era. These include living window displays depicting scenes of the holiday season and from Dickens's "A Christmas Carol," street entertainers, strolling carolers, hand bell choirs, marching suffragettes, chestnut roasters and other Victorian inspired activities. "The Hay Market" area features demonstrating artists and a sales venue for nonprofit arts groups. Horse-drawn carriage rides and a Victorian Santa to hear children's Christmas Wish Lists add to the festive atmosphere. We help organize and volunteer for this event.

We are pleased to work with them each year as a sponsor for the Spartanburg Regional Classic.  We help set up the course and platform, provide volunteer services, and give away bottled water to a very thirsty crowd.
